Valerie Unruh enjoys living by the Rocky Mountains—perfect places to find the flora, fauna and fairies that she gives expression to in her wearable glass art. “Nature Spirits” adorn many of her botanical pieces.
Valerie began her artistic career in Toronto, Ontario. She was inspired from an early age by her “little grandmother” who was an accomplished ceramic artist. Valerie received a scholarship to attend the Ontario College of Art and passed with honors standing. Directly after college, she trained as a florist in the oldest floral shop in the St. Lawrence Market Place, Toronto, and then moved to Vancouver, continuing her florist career in the oldest shop on Granville Street.
Valerie is inspired by nature and its many intricate designs. She interprets the spirit of flowers, leaves, berries and seeds, allowing them to express themselves through her art, which often results in images of fairies and the places that they dwell.
Valerie’s art and jewelry give form to her love of natural, positive and healing energy. She hopes to plant a seed in the observer’s mind and heart about the importance and magic of nature in our lives.
Artist Statement:
"Reflected within the infinite designs of nature, a way is always shown, once the mind is quiet. These art pieces and jewels are intuitively influenced by the silent strength and beauty of Mother Earth's divine intelligence."
